"King Henry, step away from the underage girls." Katherine of Aragorn was older than him and 23 when they married. He married Anne Boleyn when she was c. 30 years old. He found her interesting earlier, though... when she was 25. Jane Seymour was 28 when married. Anne of Cleves was 24. Catherine Howard is described "between 15 and 19 years old". Catherine Parr was probably 30 years old when she married him. So there is one underaged girl (maybe). I get it that he was an awful man but come on...

That whole post was a joke, and the caption was a Mean Girls quote directed at Catherine Howard. I post about the Tudors constantly, you honestly think I didn’t know any of this? This site used to be known for its sense of humor. I honestly don’t know where it went so wrong.

I don’t even understand the person’s point. In the span of their weird defense they introduce a valid target and then go but it’s only one so that’s okay.

Geez.

that’s like saying “I hate potatoes” And then some one asks “you want fries with that?” And you just say “yes I love fries.” Oblivious to the fact the fries and potato’s are the same thing but in two different forms. Fuckin embarrassing.

Well…

More practically it’s someone saying they hate tomatoes but like pizza.

Even if it’s based on something, the additional elements may make it enjoyable to the person in question.

How is my analogy any less practical then yours? Lol.

Honestly?

Because a cover band isn’t the source material. Your argument is 1:1. That’s not really relevant to why someone might like a cover band over their source. French fries ARE potatoes. It would be like if instead of a cover band you were discussing a song where the members tried different instruments but have the same basic makeup.

For instance, “All Along the Watchtower” by Jimi Hendrix is generally preferred to Bob Dylan’s, even though it’s a cover. Why? Because it adds new elements to the basic tomato/potato. It’s a fuller experience with different takes.

I get the joke was reductive in the show or whatever, but it has a pretty glaring flaw in it: sometimes other people do stuff better than the people that made it. Just compare the versions of “Hallelujah.”

So no, I guess I have to say that French fries aren’t the same as pizza. Odd statement, but there you have it.

Good point tho. I was just being a cheeky shit and thought what I said was kinda funny when I compared what was said to potatoes n fries because of the scenario the panel’s show. Now that I re-read what I said it does sound redundant. Didn’t expect someone else to really give a hoot what I said about it, honestly. all in good fun mate :) no worries. Just goofin about.

Prostitute Hanaōgi of the Ōgiya House, Kitagawa Utamaro, 1793-1794, Minneapolis Institute of Art: Japanese and Korean Art

Hanaōgi (literally, “flower fan”) may well be the most frequently depicted woman in ukiyo-e. In fact, Hanaōgi was a pseudonym used by several generations of prostitutes from the Ōgiya house, one of the most exclusive brothels in the Yoshiwara. This print represents Hanaōgi IV, the highest-ranked prostitute in the Ōgiya from 1791 through 1797. The oblong cartouche contains a poem comparing the pale beauty of Hanaōgi by moonlight to a delicate moonflower. Blossoming moonflowers arranged on a flower-fan and Hanaōgi’s face after moonrise are so adorable that people never tire of seeing them and forget that autumn is coming.
Size: 14 ½ × 9 5/8 in. (36.9 × 24.5 cm) (image, sheet, vertical ōban) 23 × 19 × 1 ½ in. (58.42 × 48.26 × 3.81 cm) (outer frame)
Medium: Woodblock print (nishiki-e); ink and color on paper
